Biography

Dr. Walter von Pechmann earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York City/New York Medical College. He went on to complete his Fellowship in Urogynecology at Methodist Hospital, Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. von Pechmann is a Fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and a member of the American Urogynecologic Society and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. He has been designated a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgeon by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

Dr. von Pechmann has authored numerous scholarly articles and book chapters in the field of Urogynecology. He has been the recipient of several NIH grants and related patents for his collaboration in developing surgical instruments designed for use in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Additionally, Dr. von Pechmann has won several teaching awards in his role as Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at George Washington University and Virginia Commonwealth University. He is also on faculty at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. He is the Inova Fairfax Hospital Site Director for the National Capital Consortium Fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery.

His practice is focused primarily on the evaluation and management of female pelvic floor disorders such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and related bowel disorders. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery for treatment of pelvic floor disorders and other complex pelvic surgeries.
